My Food ABCs

Sometimes I just don’t know what to write about. My life is pretty standard on most days – workout, work, home, cook, chores, then chill time with the BF. So when I saw that Chelsey, Janetha and Lisa all posted this ABC survey on food, I figured I’d jump on board. Who doesn’t like a good survey? And who doesn’t like talking about food?!

A: is for Apple, what’s your favorite variety?
I love apples of any kind so I don’t really have a favorite. I just go with what looks best at the farmer’s market.

B: is for Bread, regardless of nutrition, calories, or whole grains what is your favorite type to have a nice big piece of?
I looooove Kings Hawaiian Bread. My mom used to buy it all the time when I was little. I could eat a whole loaf in one sitting, which is why I never buy it!

C: is for Cereal what is your favorite kind currently (just one!)
I used to be quite the cereal monster. When I was a kid, I could eat cereal for all three meals and be perfectly happy. Now a days I only eat it every now and then and it’s usually Trader Joe’s Maple Brown Sugar Shredded Wheat.

D: is for Doughnuts, you might not currently be eating them but what kind do you fancy?
I have never been much of a doughnut fan. But I sure wouldn’t turn these down!

E: is for Eggs, how would you like yours prepared?
Over-medium all day. I LOVE eggs cooked this way! Aaaand now I want eggs.

F: is for Fat Free, what is your favorite fat free product?
The only fat free product I really buy is fat free Greek yogurt.

G: is for Groceries, where do you purchase yours at?
Trader Joe’s – duh!
Bottom Dollar – for Gatorade, frozen pizza and toiletries
Sometimes Target, Safeway and Whole Foods

H: is for Hot Beverages, what is your favorite hot drink?
Coffee, especially out of my sparkly travel mug.

I: is for Ice Cream, pick a favorite flavor and add a fun topping.
I don’t really eat ice cream but if I have to choose a fave I’d go with vanilla with chocolate chip cookie dough.  

J: is for Jams or Jellies, do you eat them, and if so what kind and flavor?
Crofter’s or Trader Joe’s jam.

K: is for Kashi, name your favorite Kashi product?
I don’t really like Kashi products. I think they all taste like tree bark. Blasphemy I know!

L: is for Lunch, what was yours today?
I won’t subject you to how hideous my lunch looks. It’s Trader Joe’s rice pilaf with frozen veggies and salsa on top. My lunch is always just a mix of leftovers/rice/beans etc. with random veggies and salsa, heated up and mixed into one big mess. Looks gross, tastes great.

M: is for microwave, what is your favorite microwave meal/snack?
Oatmeal and popcorn.

N: is for nutrients, do you likes carbs, fats, or proteins best?
I’m a carb head. I can easily go overboard on carbs which is why I try to keep my meals heavy on the protein and veggies. But that doesn’t stop me from making lots of awesome homemade crackers, tortilla chips or dough balls!

O: is for oil, what kind do you like to use?
Olive

P: is for protein, how do you get yours?
Eggs, tempeh, tofu, quinoa, greek yogurt, nuts, chia seeds, nutritional yeast, beans, nut butter, etc.

Q: is for Quaker, how do you like your oats?
Made with water, vanilla almond milk, and chia seeds. Topped with banana and sun butter.

R: is for roasting, what is your favorite thing to roast?
Veggies of course, like brussels, broc, potatoes, green beans…

S: is for sandwich, what’s your favorite kind?
Sun butter and banana or hummus and veggie.

T: is for travel, how do you handle eating while traveling?
I bring lots of healthy snacks like Z bars, nuts, almond milk,  sun butter, bananas, apples… I can pretty much make a meal out of anything as long as I have a few staples with me. I make sure we go to restaurants that are veggie friendly. Subway is a good on the road option.

U: is for unique, what is one of your weirdest food combos?
My lunches are probably the most “unique” mainly because I always just throw a bunch of random stuff into a bowl and top it with salsa or hummus and call it a meal.

V: is for vitamins, what kind do you take?
Just a multi vitamin.

W: is for wasabi, yay or nay?
Heck yes! This was my brother’s sushi. But I LOVE vegetarian sushi.

 X: is for  XRAY, if we xrayed your belly right now, what food would we see?
Sugar snap peas and cherry tomatoes…my mid-morning snack.

Y: is for youth, what food reminds you of your childhood?
Peanut Butter Captain Crunch, Cheerwine…not a food whatever, Little Caesars pizza, my mom’s homemade nachos, monkey bread, pasta salad, banana pudding, tuna casserole…everything my mom makes is awesome.

Z: is for zucchini, how do you prepare it?
I don’t think I have ever bought and cooked zucchini even though I like it. Have to get on that.

Now, wasn’t that riveting?! Well, it was fun for me to write so hopefully it was fun-ish for you to read. Happy Thursday…weekend is almost here! 😀
