Hey Hey! My name is Taylor. Welcome to my Delish World! I started this blog to document my life of healthy eating and fun living. I love food. I love to try new food and incorporate it into my meals. I also love to run and work out. In a perfect world, I would be able to cook delish meals and work out all day in the sunshine. Wouldn’t that be the life?

I work full time. I have a BA in English and an MBA in Marketing. I am 26 and live with my fiance, Marcus  and our cat, Bill in Virginia.

My family and most of Marcus’ family live in Virginia. We feel very lucky to have our families so close by and love to spend lots of time them.

Growing up, I was always active in sports and went to the gym regularly. In high school I played softball and volleyball. I went on to play Division 3 softball for a short time in college. College was pretty much one big party with a little bit of class thrown in. It was an awesome time, but not always a healthy time.

After I graduated I found it hard to get into a good exercise and food routine. Working a desk job, a long commute and living back at home were a huge change from the college life I was used to.

I started dating Marcus while I was in school. After I graduated college, I joined a gym and started running. I fell in love with running and found that it gives me the opportunity to set goals and continuously push myself. After we moved in together, I re-vamped our diets and really started paying attention to the food I was buying.  I have pretty much done a 180 since college and try to keep my life as active, clean and healthy as possible.

I was never really interested in cooking, much to my mom’s dismay. But once I got my own kitchen and did my own grocery shopping, I found that I really love preparing meals for my little family. I try to focus on whole, healthy foods and keep the boxed, packaged food to a minimum.

In April, I found out that I was BRCA1 positive, meaning that I have an 80% chance of developing breast cancer in my lifetime. This motivated me even more to clean up my diet and focus on exercise and living a healthy life. Eventually, I will most likely have risk-reducing surgery and get my breasts and ovaries removed. Until then, I want my body and mind to be as healthy and happy as possible.

I started reading blogs about healthy living, cooking, running and women who are also BRCA positive. I have become inspired by an amazing group of people who share the same passion and love for life that I do. Reading about their lives has helped me want to better mine.

So welcome to Delish World! Thanks for letting me share my world with you!

  2. How fun Taylor!!! Though I am missing the link to follow your blog! 🙂

  3. I’m sorry about the BRCA1. My mom is currently in chemo for stage 2 breast cancer, and I hope you can avoid it. How inspirational to hear how you’re trying to keep your food healthy!

  4. very inspirational… I am also trying to eat healthy and exercise more. I just started a second blog (Clean. Green. Eat. Repeat.) to try to make me publicly accountable… sad, I know! But I know how busy life is… throw in a kid and it gets even more busy. But thanks for the inspiration… and sorry about the BRCA1. I have briefly thought about getting tested for that myself… but frankly, I guess I’m afraid to. What prompted you to get tested? PS: congrats on FP. That’s how I found you.

    • nevermind, I just saw your BRCA page… wow. Your mom sounds awesome =)

    • I can send you some info on getting tested, if you want. It seems very overwhelming at first. But the whole process is pretty easy once you get the ball rolling. Also, you can get genetic counseling without getting tested. The counseling just helps make you understand the situation better. I can connect you to some counselors, if you are interested. Might be worth it if you are having lingering questions.

      • Yes, I’d like the information, thanks… can you email it to chickennuggetsandelmo@gmail.com? I’m trying to figure out if I want to do this, but it can’t hurt to have the info if I decide to get started. After I had genetic counseling during my pregnancy, the counselor recommended I go get tested because of my family history… but of course I have put it off!

  5. Great site – what an inspiration – keep it running . . . and keep smilin’ Jenn at http://www.brake5.wordpress.com

  7. Love your blog and your attitude. Breast cancer is a spectre that also looms large in my life, my mother and my aunt both died from it, making me high risk too. It’s certainly a good motivation to embark on a healthy lifestyle and once you get started it’s addictive (in a good way)!

  8. Hi! I came across your blog through wordpress and I’m glad I did. Your love for running and journey towards healthy-living interested me. I admire your positivity.

  9. Hi, Taylor! Glad to know about you through your blog. I’ve also learned that positive attitude and grateful & cheerful heart could be the best medicine to fight any disease.

  10. I love your spirit and I know you will be victorious against anything you put your mind to. All the best!!!
