We Wear Our Sunglasses At Night

The best part of wedding planning has definitely been the time I get to spend with my friends. We all live in different towns all of these extra wedding-related visits have been pretty awesome.

Last night, Lindsey and Stef came up and we hit the happening town of Occoquan.

We have fun everywhere we go. We drank. We danced. We wore our sunglasses at night.

This morning, Sam arrived and we met mom at David’s Bridal for Bridesmaids’ dress shopping. I had four dresses in mind and wanted to narrow it down to two.

The girls tried on various dresses of similar styles to my top picks. We decided on the David’s Bridal one shoulder dress for Lindsey, my matron of honor.

My other three girls (Maeghen couldn’t make this trip) will be wearing this strapless David’s Bridal dress. The best part about this dress? The pockets! I love them!

All of the dresses will come in truffle which is a really rich chocolate brown. My dress will include a ribbon of brown that matches, and the Groomsmen will be wearing vests in the same color.

The bouquets of gerbera daisies will add nice, bright pops of fall color.

I originally wanted to find burnt orange shoes for the girls, but had a hard time finding shoes in the right color of orange. So I may do a more neutral color to stay with the fall palate.

I’m getting these shoes for myself.

They also come in ivory. I think they would be pretty with the brown dresses and bright flowers. Plus they match my shoes, which would make for cute pictures.

But I may just let the girls pick whatever shoes they want. They all have good style and excellent judgement, so I know they will look great.

I loved having my friends here and being able to share in the wedding planning with them. They all looked so pretty in their dresses. It made the wedding a little more real and got us one step closer the big day!

We are making some big progress with the wedding. I hope it continues to go smoothly. I am enjoying crossing things off my list and watching the plan slowly come together. Six more months until we say, “I do!” 🙂

This and That

Goodness! I am glad it’s Friday. This has been the LONGEST week in America. That’s right…America. Maybe it’s the cold winter weather getting to me, or just that loooong stretch of time between now and the promise and excitement of spring…but I gotta say, I am SO thankful for the weekend.

I have one main reason for being excited and that reason is bridesmaids. Me and all the other BMs (not short for bowel movements) are getting measured for our dresses tomorrow. That means I get to see my best friend and all the other lovely ladies in her wedding party.

Marcus is coming along and we’re making a night of it. If girl talk, drinks and my best friend don’t cure a crappy week then nothing will.

It’s so weird to text Lu and get excited about our wedding plans. It’s so awesome that we are both getting married in the same year, but strange all the same. When we were crazy college girls, weddings were the last things on our minds…

In other news…I took a self-portrait with Bill.

He was not amused.

I also made low carb pizza crust out of cauliflower. Crazy right? I found the recipe on Pinterest (the site that keeps on giving.) It was originally posted here. I did my own thing of course when it came to measuring the ingredients, but was pretty happy with the results.

It’s not considered Paleo because I used 1/4 cup of cheese as a binding agent, but it is low carb which is a good alternative to those trying to watch their carb intake.

Marcus could not believe the crust was made with cauliflower. His first guess was quinoa. We both realllly liked this alternative to traditional flour crust. Next time, I will bake it longer initially. It fell apart when I tried cutting it. But even falling apart, cauliflower pizza is still darn good.

Have you guys ever seen these little gliding disks?

Image Detail

You put your feet on them and do all kinds of torturous acts like mountain climbers or one legged squats thingys. I’ve used them a million times, but it’s been a while. The instructor broke them out in class this morning and I left wanting to fall over. How do two little purple disks inflict such muscle quivering fatigue? Killer, but oh so good.

One last thing…I spilled coffee on my desk phone. Now it’s broken and I have phone calls to make. Is it the weekend, yet?

Have a fab one! 🙂

The Year of the Brides

Have you ever seen 4 best friends try to prepare and plan for 3 weddings in less than a year? I have. I’m living it. They say you go to college to find your bridesmaids and we all found our’s!

Do you know what it’s like to plan engagement parties, bachelorette parties, JOP ceremonies, dress fittings, venue appointments, bridal luncheons, etc for 3 girls all in various stages of their wedding planning?

You have Pinterest boards that look like this…

planners that look like this…

and texts saying, “what about March?”

It’s a mish-mash of colors, dresses, flowers, cakes, shoes, dates and traveling.

And you know what…

I wouldn’t have it any other way! If you had told me that in college I would find 3 of the sweetest, funniest, smartest, most understanding and gorgeous friends possible, I would have not believed you. But here we are, 8 years later and planning our weddings.

It’s an amazing time. And while I can’t wait to get married, I hope 2012 goes by really slow. I want to enjoy every party, every laugh, every tear, every toast, every dance, every moment with my best friends.

It’s A New Year

It’s 2012, friends! How was everyone’s nights? Marcus and I stayed in after my race. We watched 100 episodes of Friday Night Lights, and we hung out with Bill.

My race went really well. It was only four miles, but for some reason I was still nervous. I guess I’ll always be nervous before races.

Marcus and I hung out at Panera before the race started to stay warm. Once the sun went down, it got pretty cold. After hanging out for a while, I walked to the start and lined up.

The race started and ended very quickly. We ran in the dark which was pretty fun. I wish I would have worn light up accessories. Next year! The course was surprisingly challenging. There were lots of gradual hills that really got me. But it was fun. I was happy to see the finish line, worked up a good sweat, got my legs moving and ending 2011 on a good note. It was weird to spend 40 minutes running as opposed to multiple hours. But I liked it!

I think I prefer longer distances because I have a lot of endurance, but not a lot of speed. But I would definitely like to throw some shorter races into the mix into 2012. It was a fun way to change it up and I’m glad I ran it!

After the race, Marcus and I went to a nearby restaurant for supper. We had fun talking about our past new years’ together and also getting excited about our future plans.

It was the perfect way to end 2011, and start 2012. And if that wasn’t enough, one of my best friends got engaged at midnight!

That means I’ll be in three weddings in 2012, including my own. I am SO excited for her and her fiance and can’t wait to get all of the celebrations started! 2012 has been so awesome already and it’s barely started.

I still have one more day off. I am going to enjoy it to the fullest…gym, cooking and relaxing with my little family! 🙂

Have a fab one!!

Growing Up

Homecoming came and went way too fast.

I’m pretty bummed that it’s over. Saturday was spent how most Homecoming Saturdays are spent.

Pics with Jams.

A walk around campus.

A run in with the police.

Getting glam.

And bar hopping.

We made it a goal to stay out later than 9pm. I guess growing up and getting older means we can’t hang as long as we used to. So when one of us started to yawn, we had to call each other out and get up and dance.

And dance we did. The Wobble, Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle. If there’s a dance for it, we did it. I love my friends. They say you go to college to find your bridesmaids and I found mine. 🙂

Once I got home Sunday, I had to change gears and go venue hunting with the fiance and fam. I guess growing up also means you have to do things like get married and plan weddings.

From dancing on stages to dancing at Homecoming to dancing at our weddings, I know my Jams will be with me every step of the way.

Growing up isn’t all that bad with these best friends 🙂

College Days

It’s Homecoming weekend! I know. I know. I have talked about it ad nauseum this week. But it’s my blog, so I do what I want! 🙂

Tomorrow is bound to be ridiculous. It is our goal to:

Get white girl wasted. I don’t really know what this means. But it probably looks something like this.

Party like we’re 19 again. This was us at 19…or maybe 20.

Recreate Germany and Oktoberfest.

Done, done and done.

And if my parents are reading, we are going to do none of these things. We will be touring Simpson Library and visiting all our old study spots. 😉

But for real though, Mary Washington is pretty much a nerdy, liberal arts school. Even the athletes are really smart and studious.

So I can’t imagine what my college days would have been like if I went to an actual party school! Actually, it would have sucked. Because then I would have never met the loves of life and best friends in the world.

Partying aside, I really did cherish my time at UMW. I got a great education, took some amazing classes, learned from some of the most brilliant professors and met some awesome people.

I can’t wait to get my feet back on Campus Walk and lay my eyes on that gorgeous campus. UMW here we come! 🙂

As Rachel Zoe Says, “I Die”

I LOVE Rachel Zoe and her Zoeisms. Along with “I die,” some favorites include – “ba-na-nas,” “loves it,” and “ohmygod.”

She’s so ridiculous. I “literally” love her.

I caught up with her latest episode, last night. You know, the one where she gave birth. Except they never actually showed her in labor or showed a baby coming out of her vagine. I am not 100% convinced that she really birthed nugget Skyler, because she was about 90 pounds during her entire pregnancy.

But whatever, she’s fabulous so I really don’t care. Pillow baby or real baby, the episode made me teary eyed. I am a sap for all things baby and wedding related. I hope Rachel and Rog have 10 more pillow babies because how cute are teeny tiny baby designer shoes?

I die.

Another thing I die for? This pizza we had last night. It was rainy and gross out and I didn’t know what to cook for dinner, so we had a date night in and ordered pizzas and salad from our fave little Italian place, Pane e Vino.

Love. I could eat pizza every day of my life, so I was supremely satisfied with our supper. After stuffing our faces, we watched Homeland. Anyone else watching this show? I want so bad to root for Sgt. Brody, but he is just a shady, messed up dude.

I went running during lunch today. It was so necessary. Life has been kicking me in the balls this week (figuratively speaking). That run was just what I needed to chill the frick out. My legs sucked for half a mile, but then I found my happy place and just ran and it was grand.

I felt like I could have just kept running and running. But I had to get back to that pesky thing called work. Running at George Mason’s track always makes me miss college.

Good thing I’m going back on Saturday. Keg stands  and cupid shuffle for everyone!
