This weekend was go go go. We were on the run, nonstop from Friday afternoon until Sunday night.
Marcus and I left work early on Friday to get ready for our first graduation of the weekend. We came home to change and pack up because we were spending the night at his sister’s house. After meeting up with some of the fam, we made our way to the graduation location – Jiffy Lube Live – which is an outdoor concert venue.
Marcus’ nephew, Erik, had almost 700 people in his class. Needless to say, it was a long, hot day in the sun.
But it was worth it when we finally got to see Erik and the smile on his face.
We were all so proud and excited for him.
After the graduation and pictures, we went back to Marcus’ sister’s house for food and gifts.
After a few hours of sleep, it was time to wake up for graduation number 2! Robert was more than ready for his turn.
We headed back to Jiffy Lube Live and another day in the sun. But again, it was worth it to see him cross that stage and receive his diploma.
I got a bit emotional watching both boys graduate. When Marcus and I first started dating, they were still in middle school. I feel so lucky to be a part of their lives and be able to experience this special moment with them and the rest of the family.
After Robert’s graduation, it was back to Barbara’s for the graduation party. More food, more family, more fun.
But the fun didn’t stop there. My BFF, Sam was in town spending the weekend in DC with her boyfriend. As soon as we got home, I showered, changed clothes and headed back out to meet them for supper. Even though our time was short together, we had a great time. I love Sam, and wish I got to see her more often.
Marcus and I woke up early on Sunday to hit the road for his baseball games. The field was over an hour way, way past the metro area, in the mountains. We drove so far we lost our radio stations. Finally when we reached the field, we saw that it was basically a backstop in the middle of a pasture.
The “parking lot” was a patch of grass surrounded by trees.
There were no dugouts or benches. The sun was shining bright and fierce in the sky with little shade. Our hot and sweaty weekend continued.
When we finally got home in the evening, our electricity was out due to a storm that blew into the area. Thinking the electricity would come back on quickly, we lit some candles, and hung out until we were tired enough to fall asleep.
Hours later, the power still wasn’t on and we were sweltering fom the lack of a/c. Again with the sweating. We couldn’t escape it. Finally at 3am, the power came back. We were finally able to get comfortable. Three hours later, it was time to wake up for work.
It was a good weekend spent with some of my favorite people. I love the summer and being outside. But let me tell you, I was wishing for a few hours at the pool by the end of it all.
Here’s to hoping that this week is a little cooler. 🙂
